As a church, the Bible is central to all that we do. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. Consequently, everything from our patterns of worship to our church structures seeks to reflect clear Biblical teaching. That’s why, for example, in our worship we sing only the truths of the Bible, hear them read, explained, and applied to our lives in a sermon, and pray for God’s promises in the Bible to be fulfilled in our various circumstances.
We believe that God speaks. Although he speaks through nature, through all of creation, and through people and circumstances, these things in and of themselves are not enough to let us know him, his goodness, or his plan. Throughout history God has spoken, and inspired writings, and come down in the person of Jesus. These revealed truths are recorded for us in the Bible.
It is therefore important, and good, for us to read the Bible for ourselves, as well as collectively. However, sometimes it is hard to get into a good routine, or even to know where to start.
There are lots of different Bible reading plans available. If you would like help finding one please speak to one of the leadership or an older Christian that you know.
Below are two Bible reading plans that you may find helpful:
This plan calls for five minutes of reading a day, five days a week, and gives five prompts on how to dig deeper into the word and apply it to your daily life.
This plan helps you read through the Bible in a year. Reading from four separate places in the Scripture each day, you should be able to better grasp the unity of the Scriptures as a whole, as well as enjoy the variety of seeing four different viewpoints. You can begin at any point of the year.
If reading through the entire Bible in one year looms as too large a task, you can alter the plan to meet your needs. For example, you could read the gospels and the wisdom books this year, and the other two categories next year.
In the year ahead, ask God each day to speak directly to you from the Scripture portions you read. Be expectant, and let your continual exposure to God’s Word reshape your attitudes and behaviour as you gain a better understanding of every part of His written testimony to us.
With twenty-five readings each month, this plan allows time each month to reflect and catch up.
